Try disconnecting the ECU/battery for about 20 mins or if you know someone with Op Com, get them to clear any faults. Is there any other lights comming on on the dash, like a key symbol?

I don't know the 1.7 engine as much as the 2.0L one, but check the relay that feeds the diesel pump by electricity.

when you try to crank it, do see the RPM gauge move at all?
Do you notice any change in it you depress the acceleration while cranking?

I think the problem could be air in the fuel lines,
Although the engine should self fuel bleed,it doesn't always

Please be very careful and try this:
Have someone turn the engine over whilst you slightly undo one of the big banjo fuel bolts (less than a Quarter turn) best to loosen it first before proceeding,
It has worked for me several times on my di vecky tractor and hgv horsebox

Diesels are only finicky with fuel related problems

But please if you don't fancy attemting it then don't,

Be very careful with the easy start mate, it only takes a small amount to get the engine running on it. Have seen people get a bit carried away with it then fire up the engine for it to go pop because it has over revved.

also go easy on the EZ start as the engine will get addicted to it, so to speak, and then get to the point it wont start without it
