4 stud non abs wheel bearing

is it possible to press out and replace a wheel bearing using sockets and a vice? has anyone attempted it without a press? or is it easier to get a hub and driveshaft from a scrap yard and swap the whole thing over??

    thanks

easiest thing is to buy a brand new assembly - that way u know it will work unlike the ones from a scrappy!

assuming u mean front one..... here:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-ASTRA...item4aa2d171b5

** only £33.50 delievered for a brand new hub **

its the ABS version so just leave the plug disconnected or cut it off!!! If its going on your passenger side, then youll need to use the plug, as in this case it feeds your speedo.

I know of some folk that have swapped the bearing but its an arse of a job and id only ever use a press tbh - sockets/vice/hammers are just too much hassle.

If u search ebay for "astra front hub" you'll find a variety of different prices.

I've just finished doing both front bearings on the wife's astra. It's a whole lot easier to buy the hub from ebay and fit it. Just make sure that if you're doing the nearside, you might need an ABS hub as the speedo is driven by the sensor whether you have ABS or not.

its a van so really hard to pinpoint the faulty hub as the sould reverbarates around the car but i'm90% sure its the front passenger side.
its a W reg '00 so is it likely i'll need an ABS hub for the speed sensor?
i have a pritty good tool kit but what tools will i need to change the hub?

thank you for all your help guys
