    stem seals help please

Ok i have been doing some reading up on this as im looking to tackle doing this in the next few weeks with a m8..

im going to strip the head down tho as i want to replace the water pump etc too

What i would like to know after reading a very helpfull how too that i found ( allbeit not on a vauxhall but still.. its interesting to read ) is on the astra is there 2 types of seal i should be buying?

i bought mine yesterday and they arrived today..

all 16 look like so: ( not actual image, mine are green inners not black )

But the how too im reading says they are only for the intake side of things.

the exhaust side is supposed to be:

acording to the how too, ( from a integra ) the black rings are the exhaust side and silver are intake side????

" A black spring around the valve stem seal means it goes on the exhaust side. A white or silver spring on the valve stem seal means that it goes on the intake side. They are not to be interchanged. The stem diameter on the intake side is bigger than the stem on the exhaust side and if you mix them up, your exhaust side will leak and your intake side will wear faster than normal. "

can anyone shed some light on this please?

I used to do heads awhile back, forgot most of what to do now. But I was pretty sure when we did them we ordered the same type stem seals. I could be wrong though.

suppose you could always look at the ones currently on.

well i have one prob wi that lol

when it gets stripped down im not in the position to just go get more seals

im hopping that members that have done this already will be able to shed some light on it

what u have said tho makes me think i can get away with using all 16 silver ones BUT would that not mean that half of them "might" fail faster?

my 3.0 rebuild had 24 of the same type of stem seal.

We had to burn them to get them off.

i presumed since the list of cars these seals are for is longer than my leg that mrk4 chassis was the correct place for it lol

Can see anything on TIS indicating that they are different.. and no VX head I've ever worked on has either.

Shifted to 'Turbo' engine, as chassis is wheels. brakes, suspension, etc
