Smile MK4 1.4 High Idle when warm (Around 2000k)

First of all I would like to say hi as I have just joined the forum and I can see myself hanging out here a bit.

    This Friday I will be buying a 1999 MK4 Astra 1.4 16v 5 door with 88 k on the clock. For £300 I couldn't turn it down as it's a bit of a project but I like a challenge.

First thing on the agenda is I took the vehicle for a test drive and as it started warming up I noticed it developed a high idle of about 2000 rpm.

I've heard of some stuff about gunky air intakes and also something about the EGR valve but I'm not sure this 100% fits the bill.

Any clue what this could be?

    Thanks, Will.

Ok I've read some stuff on here in other places and it has told me to clean out the throttle body and Idle Control Valve.

I will do this when I pick up the car on Friday but in the mean time any other thoughts?

    Will.

Throttle position sensor was the problem on my brothers 1.4 1999 on a S plate (engine code X14XE which should be same as yours) I have changed all the engine bay sensors on it upto now and rebuilt the head, its had a new ECU and a few other bits and now looks like it needs a new cat (or maybe a de-cat) and his cost him £1250 so he aint impressed.

throttle body and ICV (more the ICV) should sort it out

a replacement ICV can be sourced quite cheaply anways (always use Delphi branded if u can)

even if its the TPS it still shouldnt break the bank

Cheers guys! I got this car for a steal so I don't mind spending a few quid on it if I have to in order to get it up to scratch =].
