    fuel gauge reading incorrectly?

never come across this before. did a long run the other day and was extremely impressed with the apparent fuel economy. got home, went to start up the next day to find it was dry as a bone and the fuel gauge was still reading almost a quater....

    any help?

    mk4 astra 2000reg

was originally a 1.6 8v, but ive put the 2.5 V6 in from a vectra. i put the v6 fuel pump in if anyone thinks that may make a difference?

i ran it as a 1.6 for 6months or so, and its been on the road as a V6 for about another 2 months and its never done this to me before... im pretty clueless

Maybe the gauge in the tank is sticking so that it cannot go below a certain point for some reason.

Usually it is the other way round if the floater develops a leak so that fuel can get into it, the tank meter will never show full tank.

As long as the gauge in the tank and the instrument was not changed i would not think it should be a problem as it is only a simple sensor / instrument setup where engine size should not matter.
