    Cost of a Timing chain on a 2.2 ?

Anyone got any recent prices paid to have their 2.2 Mk4 Timing chain done.
I bought mine allegedly having had it and a service done. I suspect these both now to be not done (never had the receipt - I know I was a wally !).
If I have the chain done though for piece of mind I was just wondering what I've got to stump out for as I have to put tyres and an exhaust on it soon !!!

Well, just had my quote for the timing and balancer chain replacement .... £450 !!! If I hadn't just paid for tyres, front disc and pads, wheel hub I'd been thinking about selling up. Never mind after the exhaust it'll be a new car.

And then I'll name the car Trigger, after Trigger's broom in Only Fools and Horses

Pay £15 for AOC full membership and get Trade Club access. Buy genuine VX timing chain kit from them for less than the RRP you've no doubt been quoted by the garage. pay a local independant garage (ideally with VX experience) a couple of hours labour to fit it.

If you can't get the whole lot for under £340 I'd be very much surprised, as that's how much I priced it up to be on my 2.2 Zaffy

This was a quote for a local Vauxhall specialist I've been going to for years !! Just a bit cheesed off about it. Seems to be spending on it constantly.

timing chain kit comes in at £130
balancer shaft chain kit comes in at £130

labour to fit on top but iirc its a fairly easy job to DIY

i recall a thread existing on this very forum a few years back by "Ffoeg" showing what was involved

may be worth a quick search

Local Blackpool main dealer did mine last May - charged me £550 just for the timing chain! Last week chain started banging and rattling like a good'un and now they want to charge me another £200+ to put it right. Car hasn't even done 10,000 on it!
