    Astra Mk4 convertible

Hi chaps, im thinking of buying a convertible astra. My budget is around £3000 maybe £3500. But just wondering if there are some specific things i should look for. Think i may go for the 1.6 as i want to reduce the running costs and get better mpg.

    Any pointers/tips?

Yes, stay away from the 1.6. It's slow and thirsty as hell. The 1.8 is the better car and is better on fuel than the 1.6 as it's not working as hard.

I took my 2.2 convertible for a run last Sunday to a friends (70 miles round trip up the M1) and at a steady 60mph on the motorway, the trip showed 44.6mpg, I zeroed it before I left.

My friend up the road has a 1.8 with similar mileage to mine and he reckons his 1.8 is not that much better on fuel.

But as an all rounder, the 1.8 is a good bet.

    I would agree with above.

We used to have a 1.6 convertible G and it was slow. Fuel not brilliant. We replaced it with a 1.8, not only quicker but also better economy overall.

also, when you say things to look for try and get an edition spec, like the linea rossa or SE2 etc, i have an edition 100, with extras such as cruise control, heated leather seats, trip computer etc

With regard to the electric hood, am i right in thinking that the handbrake must be on before it will work? Also i know u can put the hood up and down via the keyfob. But do u ust press the button a couple times and walk away, or do u have to stand next to it holding the button down until its finished? any idea how long it takes to fold/unfold?

Yeah, the handbrake does need to be on and unless you fit a total closure kit, you will need to stand with the car holding the button on the fob until it's done. It's not a real hassle though, only takes about 30 seconds either way and it still looks flashy.

Edition 100, another good choice. Just for Info for Burtdick, the Linea Rossa and Edition 100 have identical specifications regarding equipment etc.

In my opinion, I would only seek an E100 or LR.

Where so you get these total closure kits from?
