    ONLINE play ONLY - 360 vs PS3

Waited on the extension being built before i started looking at building a PC proper & buying in a games console.

I've looked at them as a Xbox-vs-PS3 argument, but online play will be an important factor to me in this.

I've plenty PS2 games....but i believe Sony have been muppets & not made them backwards compatible (or at least not the newer ones).

So PREFERABLY viewpoints from people who have experienced online play with BOTH consoles, as these are the only people who can offer as unbiased as possible opinion.

    Pros & cons of both?
WHY you'd opt for your chosen option?

    Games i typically play:
    Fifa/football games
    Fighting games
    Grand theft auto like games

That's basically what my PS2 collection was made up of. Few racing games in there too.

First game to be bought will be Street Fighter 4

get a new xbox 360 the online play is 1000x better as you dont DC from games when its hosted on a shit persons internet.

xbox runs via Microsoft Servers worldwide meaning you get a low stable connection ping/latency

ps3 runs via its user server so if i have 56k and host a game your all lag like hell.

+ ive had both and my ps3 is only used as a blueray player wen im bored

I have ps3, prefer it over 360 by miles personally in almost every aspect! I don't think you should have to pay to play games online an yet Microsoft still insist on charging, fair enough you might be prone to a little lag but in this day and age, most people, especially gamers have decent connection speeds so I've never really had too many issues with lag etc gaming online with the ps3!

to be fair, you pay for dedicated maintained servers, and if you shop around its less than £30 a year

I used to love my PS2 but the 360 controller is far superior because its design isn't all about how it looks, sony got too hung-up on symmetry and as a result the analogue sticks are in the wrong place, they're still churning out a controller from a time when there were not analogue sticks, which is why the D-pad is where it is, it used to be the primary part of the controller!

    gaming PC matey.
more and better exclusive games, cheaper games, huge modding communities (capable of revamping tired classics to look as good at today's games), dedicated servers (i.e. better and faster action against hackers), overall tonnes of cool free stuff.
controls wise, you can use an xbox controller with PCs for fighting games etc, but when it comes to FPS you just cant beat a mouse and keyboard.

Cheers for the input so far. Really helpful

Although some of you seem to be basing your views on nothing to do with online play.

ps3 , free online play, but can be very laggy, also lots of cheats as psn dont ban many people.
360, better online server, more reliable, and less cheats, although lots of mouthy lil kids. i ended up selling both but i regret it. but id stick with the 360

I have both and play both online.

I've had quite a few problems with xbox live. Servers going down, overall service going down, matchmaking failing etc. Lots of frustration. All of that and you have to pay for it!

So far the PS3 has just... worked. Never a problem, and it's free. Cant say much about lag as It's hard to compare the two unless you have some technical software to give you an accurate measure surely? There are occasions on both where there has been actual noticable gameplay lag of course.
