    Question turbo help

    hi all,
i have a 1999 mk4 1.7 td, just wondering how do you know if the turbo is on the way out ??
basicly i have a dodgey noise that sounds like a small fan catching something and im very worried that it might be the turbo ... also i get alot of white smoke when i first start the engine in the morning.

pull the intake hose off and check for any play in the shaft.
