    45.8mpg is good mate

    on a 230 mile round trip last week i managed 46.5mpg at a steady 65mph practicly all the way with a little cruising inbetween and 1 or 2 heavy foot moments

    including that run i had my best tank of fuel yet, i brimmed her (49 litres) and i got 437 miles!!! well impressed seeing as my 1.8 could barely get 350 miles to a tank.

    I'd love to see how you get these mpg figures.

    I can manage 350 in my 1.8 MK4 easily. However the best return i've had off a journey (journey, NOT tank) was about 40mpg tops & this was from...

    * fill up (Shell V Power)
    * Straight on the m-way (ok, about 2 miles to get to the m-way) & 45 mile to the trafford centre at a constant 60mph. Not 70mph, it was 60mph.
    * Gear changes at 2.25/2.5k
    * same journey back from trafford centre
    * straight to same petrol station, fill up & calculate...
    * miles / litres * 4.544 = mpg

    I did that purposely to see what's the max MPG i could get out of it as i didn't need to fill up at the time

    *checks*
    I got 41.16mpg
    I've had 40.63 & 40.20 mpg & those are my only 40+ returns.

    Not saying i don't believe, just that i'm impressed if the figures are accurate

    Ive had over 45mpg before when ive driven up north 280 mile trip doing a steady 70mph in my coupe turbo. I think they are brilliant on long trips.

    Ok these fuel figures are ind boggling to me.
    I'll admit, I don't drive like an angel all the time, but I don't speed. Yet currently I can't get above 250 miles from 33 litres of fuel (£40). It is due in for its service anytime now, is this likely to improve it at all?

    I get around 60 miles to a tenner too in my 1.8 SE2 so we're in the same shitty boat I'm afraid, mines only recently been serviced too.

    i get what your saying mate, i am so suprised that when cruising its that economical, but if i drive around town only and dont go on a long run i'll get 270 miles to a tank... cruise on the motorway the whole way and i can get 430 miles...

    i just did a oxford to london and back run to pick up some alloys, i did all that in just opver 1/4 of a tank 150 miles
