    Wheel bearing kits

after a wheel bearing kit for my gsi mk4.

Are these the same for front and rear, or do the rears have a different bearing from the front? Also any ideas as to a price of a kit?

    Thanks

bearing is not serviceable on the Mk4

    u just buy a complete bearing/hub assembly

    much much easier

costwise anything from £45 upwards depending on brand

SKF is what GM supply, these will set u back about £90 from VPW (Vauxhall Parts Warehouse) on ebay

alternatively, the like of Continental and other brands can be had for about £45

heres an example for a front one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Astra...item335e590047

Thanks for that. Seen a guy selling a wheel bearing kit for £10. must be the hub assembly he is selling. Don't think i will take the chance. Will the continental do the job fine or are there issues with cheaper brands? Like problems with abs sensors etc etc.....

some of the cheapies are crap i must admit

altho the one i linked to isnt a conti one - cant seem to find any contis at the mo

i plan on replacing both my fronts for contis in next few months

SKF ones are twice the price - still a fraction of what Vxl charge - depends if u wanna take the chance or pay a bit more for a genuine part

Genuine part's don't matter to me. as long as they do the job that they are supposed to do to the standard they are supposed to does me fine. I won't scrimp over the car but i wouldn't pay the exorbitant costs just to get a vx manufactured part. if the cheaper one does the same job then that's good enough for me.

Will hold off and see if i can get conti's as the bearing is only making a slight noise and doesn't sound like it is going to collapse in the near future. also the car does about 20 miles a week if lucky, so will hold off a while. Thanks

When i said genuine - i didnt mean from Vxl

i mean the SKF branded ones from VPW - 100% identical to what GM supply, just in a different box!

Buy from a reputable stockist such as LMF, VPW, Autovaux etc and youll still get the same 12month warranty etc

£55 should get u a decent aftermarket unit from these stockists
