    Air Con compressor questions

Last year my air con failed. Got it regassed only to find out its the air con clutch which has gone.
Bought a 2nd hand compressor with the intention of fitting it myself.

    Now two questions:
How can I safely drain the gas out of the system in order to fit the compressor?
Can I test the new compressor before getting it gassed, as I would hate to spend another £50 to find out I have another dud compressor!

    Thanks

Take it to a aircon place and they will drain it for you, get a 12v battery and two wires to and touch them on the pins in the plug, the compressor should click and the clutch will pull in

or you could just keep leave your existing compressor on the car and swap the clutch + coil over?

Right know this isnt the exacy one i have but

Am I right in understanding that when the air con is switched on the end (right hand side on above image) should be turning too?

Think my 2nd compressor was a faulty one too

Well just put a multimeter to the connector and no 12v signal when the air con is turned on so need to check the fuses but had checked this before and worked fine.
    Fun!!

id take your car somewhere else for a 2nd opinion maybe the last guy was trying to flog you a comp that you didnt need, if theres no power to the clutch theres probably no gas in there and the pressure switch has cut power to the clutch or could be a faulty pressure switch?
