Remote Central Locking - Intermittent on MK4

Started acting up today. I'll hit the button (either open or close) & it wont do, at all, for ages. (Don't say stand closer to the car).

So i open the door via the key. Re-sync the keys & it does the doors 1st time. Take the key out the ignition & it doesn't work when i hit the buttons....then it does.....then it doesn't.

Get out the car, hit the button to lock it & it doesn't work, doesn't work, doesn't work.......then it works.

Battery is new & the other key (which also has a new battery in) appears to be the same.

    Likely cause & solution?

Just been out again at this & it's bloody annoying. Decides when it does & doesn't work. Can be 50/50.

Hit the open button & the red light on the remote stayed on for ages & then finally opened.

Sticking in ignition now wont re-sync it, although i doubt that's the issue.

Energizer batteries are approx 2 months old

    No new electronics installed.

Have stuck paper in there to get a better connection though i doubt it was needed .... & it hasn't worked.

    Happens with both keys.

Can't think of any other possibilities to cover

I'm glad i'm not in the boat all on my lonely then.

Still no better today either. Totally hit & miss as to when it'll open/close. It's like playing heads & tails with a coin

i guess its something to do with the connections on the key circuit board. you my need to get a new button half of the key which then needs your old immobiliser chip and needs programming with op-com. unless you know how to fix the little bugger~!

Usually the connections from the battery holder to the circuit board break off....sometime u can just stick a folded up bit of paper on top of the battery and then stick the lid on.. or failing that if ure handy with a soldring iron , resolder them back on...

As above - tried the paper thing.

Also, it's a bit suss that both keys started acting up on the same day.

So the solder went iffy on BOTH keys on the same day?

I was thinking some problem perhaps on the cars end maybe?

    Also rooting for bad solderings.

Maybe the reason that both keys act up is that you have recently put in hew batteries as stated and this loosened the allready weak connection.

Just to add, i also think its something to do with the car and not the key (in my case anyway) Because i noticed that when the car was wet, either after washing it or a heavy shower the remote locking would work.

Is that the same with yours kev?
