Astra convertible drivers window wont go up - Please help!

    Hi All

Electric window on drivers side will not go up. When you press the down button you can hear the motor click but nothing when you push the up button.

If you use the button on the centre console to put all the windows down, they all go down (except drivers window as it's already down) but when you press the up button, only the back windows go up. You have to use the actual passenger window button on either the passenger or drivers door to get the passenger window to go up.

This is the same when you close the hood, only the back windows go up.

I have replaced the main drivers door switch but there is no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is. I am desperate to get this fixed as I really need the car back on the road.

    Cheers

had similar to this im my old rover

will the window lift if you help it up either by pulling it up or pushing it up from behind the door panel???

pop the door panel off and push it up when pressing the button to close it... once up (keep it up) look for a new window motor

it could be somthing else but thats what it was on mine

EDIT : could also try lots of wd40 on the moving parts

havent tried that but when you operate the up button there is no sound at all from the motor. I will try and take the panel off tonight and have a look.

Ok, door panel is off and I have taken the plug out the back of the motor as no amount of pulling etc will make the motor move

I have no meter so using a light bulb to check power. I see the following.

    Red - constant live
    Red/White - constant live
Blue/green - live when down button pressed

I get nothing from the blue/White, brown or brown/black when I press the up button.

I am outside at the car now so would appreciate some suggestions.
    Cheers

Ok. I'm really confused now. Tried the dash button that puts all the windows up and down and it was giving power to the window for the up position. Plugged the connector back in and the window went up.

But the windows are just doing their own thing now. Sometimes the back ones don't go down when you hit the button, when you press the hood down button the back windows drop and sometimes they don't.

Just hit the hood down burton their and everything worked as it should, windows dropped a few inches, hood went down then the windows went back up. Pressed the hood up button and only the front two windows dropped. The back ones never moved.

Sometimes only one back window is going up or down and the drivers window still doesn't go upon the switch.

    This is driving me nuts.

hmm you have me confused now.. i wouldnt know what to check :S

if its now started working but sometimes only some windows work + your earlier problem there might not be enough power but im not too sure how much that would effect things

id get all the windows up and get an opinion of somone with more knowledge than me lol

well I've had to book the car into Vauxhall to try and find out why the windows are not behaving properly. I'll let you know how I get on.

well thats the car gone into Vauxhall today and its cosing £50 just for them to look at the car!!!

I did't want them coming back and saying they couldnt find a fault (as they sometimes do!) so I asked for them to witness what it was doing. After a few goes at putting the windows up and down it started misbehaving, sometimes putting the rear windows down, sometimes not, sometimes just one would go down then after a few seconds the other side would start to go down.

I am hoping its not going to be an expensive repair but I'll let you all know as soon as I hear from them.

The guy I showed the problem too said he had never seen the windows behave like that before so everything is crossed!!

    Cheers

just got a call from my local dealer to tell me they don't have the experienced technicians required to diagnose the fault and have suggested I book the car into another Vauxhall dealer.

Car booked into another dealer for Thursday. Lets hope I have better luck this time. They are certainly cheaper with a £32.90 diagnostics charge.

My local dealer will not charge me the £50.

I'll let you know how I get on.
