    Aircon leak ?

Iv had an electrical cooling system light up on my dash for a while now. at first the fans wouldnt kick in atall so thought it was just that but now since we are getting some hot weather iv been turning on the aircon but its no cooler than normal blowers

now both my normal and aircon fans turn on when the temp needle gets just past the middle line. but the aircon fan doesnt turn on atall of you hit on the aircon. alos the revs dont jump up like they used to last year ?

also yesterday when doing my bumper this came off the bottom of the aircon rad

just wondering if all the gas had leaked out if this would flip the light on ? and would it of killed any of the other aircon parts ?

and is there anyway to check if its actuly leaking ?

    Thanks for any help

bottom of my aircon rad did something similar

the aircon didnt work (light came on but compressor didn't kick in)

it didnt turn on any warning lights though

once the rad had been replaced and the system regassed it worked perfectly

ur aircon pump wont kick in nor will the fans work, if ur low on aircon gas as it works on pressure and the aircon system has pressure sensors, its a saftey feature to protect the aircon pump from damaging its self as its needs the oil to lube its parts, thats added when regasing.

aircon rearly runs out.. it last for years, unless u have a leak.

    hope this helps

My sisters car is in the same state, new rad time, only just got a new one for my dads astra lol and now I need another lol

chances are like my dads, the fan has worn a small hole in the rad as it's not supported anymore by the bit that's fallen off

Your Air Con rad has nothing to do with the cooling of the engine, so you won't cook you engine.

As that's the bottom of your air con rad, you'll never reseal it, you'll need a new Air Con Condenser (radiator).

Not sure what engine you have, but i priced up one from Vauxhall yesterday and they're over £200.

    I suggest you look HERE

£66 delivered, then the cost of a regas.

Its a z14xe engine i have. so do i need a rad for that engine specifically or is it the same across all the mk4s ?

also how much of a job is it to take the old one off and put in a new one yourself ? and i can get it regassed at work

Take a look at the link I posted.

The same Condenser is used over the petrol range (less the Z20LET).

Mine has a small hole in it behind the fan done to old age, so i'm sceptical in buying a second hand one.

It doesn't look a big job replacing the condenser, but i've not done it yet.
