Bump strip badges - they don't "just pop out from the rear"...?!

Removed a strip today to weigh up the situation.

I don't want to paint over the badge & if i mask it off, i know paint will get under the tape, or will peel when i take the tape off or something else that will make it look cack.

So best way is to remove the badge & then replace when it's time to put them back on the car.

I remember being told that they "just pop out from the rear"

No they don't. Or if they do, then there's some magic trick i can't see.

    Said badge ^^

Now a shot of the rear of this badge/the rear bump strip:

What am i to do with this?

The only thing i can think of is going the de-badging route (a-la hairdryer & flat head screwdriver) & pry it out once the glue has softened (IF it's glued) & then once the painting has been sorted, glue it back in with some strong glue.

On a side note, what would you recommend to cover the holes with? Reason i ask is by the time i finish work, it's getting late & although it's been warm, there'll be increase moisture in the air i guess which will fudge up the paint job.
So i was thinking strips off ..... cover the holes somehow so water doesn't get inside ..... spray strips when i can ...... when ready, refit.

Mine's from a 51 plate if it makes any difference??

Someone must've done theirs on a 51 plate onwards & i'm assuming they're like this??

I know if i mask it off then paint will just run under the tape edges. I did it on something once before & masking didn't work.

Although to put it all to bed for all the non-believers, the strips do just remove by giving them a knock & no need to remove door cards (or at least that's the case with mine)

EDIT: Don't want to buy any strips in ........ they cost money Plus i don't mind the bump strip badges

Ive seen really early mk4s and 05 ones with the plain bump strips but not many in between. I bought a set from a member on here and they were the plain ones. If I were you, I'd just rip it apart - I'm sure a bit of super glue will more than suffice to repair any damage. Give it some welly mate!

Ummm, are you telling me mine have been off before?

You wouldn't think so looking at the cack behind the strips lol. I also know it was some woman nurse who had the car before me & i can't see as why she'd mess with the bump strips when she never messed with any other section of the car.

Are we thinking heater, screwdriver, paint up, superglue back then?

I used a small screwdriver an gently pushed the insert through the slots in the back of the bumpstrip and they dropped out, they were just stuck in place.
