Should I fit the turbo now?

    Hello

I am one of the lucky astra z20let owners to have a puff of blue smoke on start-up and if left to idle, a puff when I pull away. However, I have bought an Astra VXR turbo unit and full VXR exhaust system which I am keen on fitting.
My question is, if I fit the turbo and the stem seals are leaking will it have an adverse effect on the new turbo?
The car is waiting to be booked in to have the Headgasket, head skimmed, Inlet and Exhaust Manifold Gaskets, 2 Camshaft Seals, Thermostat Seal, Rocker Cover Gasket and 'O' Rings, stem seals and cylinder head end gasket done and I was wondering if it would be advisable to put the turbo fitting on hold until after.

    Thanks

the turbo will be removed when doing the work you have detailed, so i would say whack it on at the same time and save yourself some money in labour.

Makes sense but if I fit the turbo and the smoking stops then I won't have to lash out on having all the seals etc done.
So if the turbo is fitted and I still have the smoking issue will this effect the turbo?

ahh right i thought it was definately going in to get the head off and seals done. if that work isnt a definate and your trying to cure smoking then whip the plugs out to see if they have some oil staining on the tips.

Ok, so if there is no oil on the tips then would it mean that its the turbo rather than the seals?
    Cheers

Nice one mate. I'll have a look and if no oil on the plugs then I'll crack on with fitting the turbo and the exhaust.

    Cheers
