Question quick question about high mileage

just wondering about buying cars with high mileage....

I was looking at buying a car the other day but was put off by the amount of miles it had covered

it was an 03 plate astra 1.6 petrol and it had covered 137000 miles!!!

when speaking with the owner he had baught the car 2 years ago with 105000 miles from a old people carer company

the car is still for sale but he is looking for around 1800 for it... should I stay away for the amount of miles it had covered??

if you like the car try and get the price down, the milage is good leverage for a discount, personaly though i wouldn't buy a car with high milage, the Astra i just got has 3k lol

Well that price isnt very good so i personally wouldnt.
And people say mileage doesnt matter if its been looked after but i dont think thats the case.
You can look after a car as much as you want but you cant stop age/wear and tear from taking its toll on major components.
You might get unlucky and buy it just as parts start to break down on it, causing a lot of hassle and money.

To give you a guide on how that is overpriced (or too much for what i'd pay)

    In Sept 2008 i bought a 1.8 SRi on a 51 plate which had covered 111k & had FSH for £1.4k down from £1.6k

well the car is on ebay and I havnt yet viewed it... the car looks in very good condition apart from a small unpainted refill on the front bumper

there is a day left and no bids put the mileage is a big put off for some

the service history consists of mot certs and few stamps from early year but nothing too recent

note : this is the car http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tab%3DWatching

There is no problem with higher milage cars, so long as the car has history,ie 20k a year FSH is ok,
Sometimes they have better engines simply because the car has longer trips,
Short trips stopping and starting etc wears the engine more,

I do hope this makes sense,
however the car in question is way overpriced, and too many miles, the engine might be ok, but the rest ie bearings shockers, and use, says to me leave it alone, unless its half that price, and you want an inbetween car.

What i dont like about it is that he is including the whole sound system for it and doesnt say he will sell it for less if you dont want the sound system.
So basically you are paying more for a sound system you might not want.
It also says used by the husband AND son for work.
A stereotype but SON could imply a teen, say 17/18 and therefore rags the car around.
