Whos the person to speak to about part prices?... i need some help

after a stupidly long oil change yesterday I came home very worried and very angry, but as the football was on I thought i'd chill out for the evening. anyways its a new day so its time to tackle this head on.

its the 1st time i've changed the oil on my car personally as a mate has done it in the passed.

removed the sump plug.. easy. wait for oil the drain.. even easier.

try and change the oil filter .. near impossible by hand as it turns out my mate loves to lock tight everything!.. not just a drop either!

anyways thought well i need to get home so i'll have to put some oil in it and change the filter when i have more time.

go to tighten the slump plug (we're talking from finger tight to hand tight) and my heart plumitted .. it came loose again

remove it and its covered in bits of metal .. turns out the guy that did it last buggered the thread up.

this, i assume pretty much means i need a new sump.

as i had to get home, i had to use instant gasket stuff and lock tight

so what i want to ask is
how much am i looking at for a new sump? and can i get it on trade price from vaux?

    thanks

    a very annoyed Will

What engine? Got a Z16XE sump sitting in a garage with no use at all for me...

I hammered a screwdriver into my old oil filter, no issues getting it off by using the screwdriver as a lever

if the last guy doing it had messed the thread up that bad it would not have stayed in You may get away with just a new sump plug. And DO NOT overtighten it this time

might be worth getting somone to look at it, they might be able to use a tab & die set to re thread it, but make they are careful not to leave any metal deposits inside the sump as they could damage the engine

    Hiya,
The z18xe in early models differ from the later models,(although very similar)
Be carefull if you find an exchange sump all alu,
Its a pity but i had both recently, but sold on,
I do hope you have can re- thread it,

    Paula

Only the part no, they look very similar, but i think your is the later one which is shallower, although both will fit, one has problems in reading the level of oil

The p/n is just above, a round crossed out impression at the rear as ya look at the sump in place, very difficult to c in situe

    Hope i've helped a little

Alternatively ring vx dealers they will advise you.in fact do that to be sure

You won't be able to re-TAP the thread, the metal isn't there to recut the thread.

    You'll need a new sump.

i just rang vaux and they said there was two for may car .. one with a multi funtion display note next to it?

i imagine this is for the cars with trip computer 3 line displays rather than just the standard display i.e radio, and date?

paula, you've been more than helpful. thank you

Keif, what about re lining it? or are we literally talking a few mil left after the threads gone?
