    New car, New problems.

Hello, I have gone and bought myself a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v SXi Twinport on a 53 plate. Lovely looking motor apart from it being blue and I'm a liverpool supporter :P I have a few little problems with it and hope you guys can help me sort them out

I've had the spanner light come on the dash a few times now, not always on just every now an then. I did the peddle test and it brings back this code "1113" and from what I have read it's got something to do with the inlet manifold and the twinport sensor? Whats the best thing to do to get rid of this code?

Also when I got the car it already had a radio in but I have just changed it to a better kenwood one I had in my old Rover 25. Only problem I'm having is that every time I turn off the ignition and remove the key all memory in the radio is lost and everything returns to defaults, any ideas why? Also for some reason it's hot! If I have the radio on for say 10 minutes it gets extremely hot. Dont think I've wired anything up wrong as It was a straight swap from the old radio.

    Thanks for your help.

Sounds like your headunit is fecked if it's over heating. It should warm up during use, but not to that level

Switch the red and yellow bullet connectors over on your kenwood loom

As for them getting hot, its nothing to worry about, probably the heatsinks that you are touching on the sides.

As I said, the unit heating up isn't a problem, but it is when it becomes "extremely hot" as the OP suggests.

You'd be surprised how hot these headunits get, after all they have around about 15A of current flowing through such a small case. And the only route of heat dissipation is those shiney metal bits on the side.

I appreciate that mate. Many moons ago when I worked for Citroen they had problems with their stereos overheating to the point of burnout. A certain amount of heat is to be expected but overheating is dangerous.

    Hehe

Know what you mean there bud

I fit them at work, about 7-8 a week at the most, When testing Kenwoods & JVC's for faults, they are always pretty hot, ( enough to cook an egg on them ) Even when they we good ones.
