    Fifa World Cup 2010

Today is the opening day of the Fifa World Cup 2010.

The opening ceremony is at 13:00 and the first game is at 15:00.

    Who's looking forward to it?

As for England, Rio Ferdinand is out, Wayne Rooney is having temper problems, James Milner has been ill, David James has a minor knock and Emile Heskey is being Emile Heskey.

What do you think England's chances are? Top 4 finish? Winners? Quarter's again?

I can see King replacing Ferdinand and playing a 4-4-2 formation with Rooney and unfortunately, probably Heskey up front. Though I'd prefer to see Crouch as the drop off striker to hold the ball up. I just hope King can stay fit and healthy as he is a bit fragile these days.

I'd also like to see Hart start in goal, Green is a decent keeper but he's had chances and never taken them and James is too old. Hart should be given the chance, like Casillas was many years ago. Young talented keeper who can gain the experience at a young age and mature into a keeper as good as Buffon (Hopefully).

My ideal 4-4-2 formation would include:

    --------------Hart

    Johnson - King - Terry - A. Cole

    Lennon - Lampard - Barry - J. Cole

    ---------Crouch
    -----------------Rooney

Obviously that will never happen since Gerrard has the armband, but he never seems to perform for England as well as he does for Liverpool so I suppose if they swap Lampard for Gerrard and keep it as above, it wouldn't be too bad.

Yet again though, we select a squad with no natural (good) left footed midfielder.

Who will win the tournament though?

    Argentina? - Messi, Tevez etc
    Spain? - Xavi, Villa etc
    Portugal? - Ronaldo, Simao etc
    Brazil? - Kaka, Robinho etc
    England? - Rooney, Lampard etc
    Italy? - Ribery, Henry etc
    Germany? - Lahm, Klose etc
    Netherlands? - Robben, Huntelaar etc
    Italy? - Pirlo, Cannavaro etc

    Discuss.

PS: Curious, will the other nations of Great Britain support England or will they support everyone else who England has to play? (This could get heated)

    Cheers.

i cant wait, actually going home in a bit

not really to sure on Englands chances, we have the players and a manger who seems to have the right attitude....but is it going to be the same old story had the potential and won ferck all.

Have to have spain as one of the favourites, they have just so much strenght both on the field on keeping the bench warm.

just purely out of jealousy there is no way in the world any of the other "home nations" will support England.

The opening ceremony is on ITV1 along with the first match straight after it ... I think ITV have their own watch it live bit on their website, might be wrong.

BBC are showing the 7.30 France game, and I believe can be watched online, but not entirely sure.

Think spain will win it. Would like to see the USA do quite well.

As for Engerlands chances? Its really hard to tell. If they get off to a flyer against USA with a result then it could go well. Dont know what the atmosphere will be like in the camp if USA beat them though.

As a Scot, it gets tedious not qualifying but it doesnt breed any hatred within me for the English. Best of luck to them. If they win lose or draw it wont affect me in the slightest.

It would have been much better with the Tartan Army involved tho

Also, agree with OP that Hart should start in goal, he has earned his chance after his form last season
