    Question prect decat = ecu goes nuts?

    I took my car to the local tuner today and told him I wanted to convert my exhaust system in to a 2,5" system with a racecat, I also said that I wanted to remove the precat. He asked me the if the precat had an lambda sensor, I told him it does. He then informed me that my car maybe would go on the fritz if I removed the precat due to that the lambda sensor was expecting a different value.

    If I swap the precat for a decat pipe will the ECU go nuts?

    As far as I know changing the precat doesn't cause issues, sometimes changing the main cat can cause the emissions light to come on the dash as a sports
    cat won't filter as much crap on the way through etc! I believe the Lambda is before the actual cat part of the pre cat anyway so the readings it receives would be exactly the same as both cat sections come after it!

    May not be 100% correct but that's the way I understand it! Sure someone will correct me if I have it wrong!

    do you mean precat as in the 1st cat that joins to the turbo?if so when i changed mine to a decat i didnt have any probs although not sure if every 1 is the same but i fitted and run fine with no lights coming up.i have heard if you remove 2nd cat that can bring dash light on?

    lol coupe2t im a slow writter but you sound right to me and yes lamda is before actual cat on both as you said

    When i changed mine the garage had my car on idle 15-20 mins before i got there. I turned the car off then on and the revs bounced about between 0 and 750 then cut out. It did this 3/4 times. Since then no problems atall.

    Okay, thanks guys! That rules out the precat at least. But as Coupe2T mentioned, do you think the racecat will cause problems?

    If it's 200 cell it should be fine! If it's 100 cell tho then you might have issues with the emissions!
