I'm a guitar teacher, I've got a degree in Professional Musicianship from BIMM and Sussex University, I've been self employed as a guitar tutor for 3 years, I've started writing a book on guitar maintenance/repair.
I also work for my girlfriend doing freelance web development, design, content etc.
my local guitar shop called me and asked me to teach there, I said I was interested and that all seemed great, they still haven't sorted out a CRB check for me but they want me to work in the shop generally too... for under minimum wage.
working one hour for myself or my girlfriend would earn the same as working 4 hours for them.
they want to pay about £35 for a full 9-5:30 day.
to top it off they try and make it sound like they're doing me a favor
'of course we could just get some school kid and give him £15 a day...'
