BTW Just picked up an Irmscher spoiler off ebay. Its already painted midnight black. What do you think, stick it on as is, or get it painted red to match first?

It clamps directly to the tow ball. Big lever that you push down then lock in place. Also, if you pull the handle above the number plate, the whole thing tilts back, bikes and all, and allows you to open the boot (so long as the bike pedal nearest the boot is positioned up, rather than down). Looks super precarious, but it works!

    This lot stock them:

Mine was off ebay, as is actually a £300 odd model from a year or two ago (I paid £100). The basic models start at about £100-120 ish. Tesco had some cheap a while ago. Think the cheap ones need a monkey wrench to clamp on too and you buy the lock separately.

Yeah, am dead chuffed with rack. With box, rack and bikes, the mpg hit has been OK, only down 1-2mpg. With taking bikes, the roof box has been invaluable, as we've had to lug kids bike seats, panniers and helmets on top of everything else. Only real down side is the space it takes up in shed, only the upright bar folds down. On some of the other models the base all folds up really neat.
