    Lightbulb Rally Style Gear Change

i just had a thought (not good!)

Has anyone got those led lights that tell you when to perfectly change the gear like they do in Rally Cars? Either Astras or any other car?

I know one member with some fitted but no idea where they were from, they're called shift lights or something similar, I'd imagine eBay et-al will have a ready supply.

Bottom centre, just above the steering column shroud

They actually light up red and can be set to come on simultaneously or progressively

Here's mine, you can order them in any colour combination from here:

Easy to set up and very accurate too!

Cheers.. but they did look shit straight out of the box, but with a bit of time and effort it's easy enough to incorporate them into the instruments, and hard wire it all into the loom. The control box lives in the glove box.

Unfortunately they are long since discontinued by the manufacturers (HyperForm), and I think they might have been Australian

I took mine to bits to try to integrate the LEDs in to the dash, but there's little room in the dash pod to fit LEDs becuase the dials are one peice despite looking like they are seperate.

I was lucky then.. it was pretty simple to do and only need a bit of Dremel attention to make the extra room needed

Is it actually wired up to give you the perfect change tho? or does it go red when your about to hit the red line?

like on a turbo model would you be able to have it geared up to flash red when the revs are at the point where the engine is at its highest power which i believe isnt actually 6500 revs(cant explain it very well i appologise lol)

Mines adjustable for both lower and upper limit.

1st red light comes on at 3900rpm (just before the power band on the cams), and thne light progressive to 6400rpm which is just before peak power, and just a few 100rpm before the limiter.

Before the remap, when it was underfueling at higher revs, I had all 4 set to light at 3900 (at max brightness), to remind me to keep out of trouble
