    Irmscher Sportstar Offset

    Hey all

I have been in contact with arch enemy about getting my arches rolled as the alloys I brought (18" Irmscher Sportstars) are to wide and they stick out from the car slightly there for making it rather difficult to lower.

After speaking with the above today they wanted to no what offset there where but I don't actually have a clue all I no is they are 225/40/18 and I no the 225 part is the reason they stick out as most coupe alloys are 215.

Question is does the offset differ from alloy to alloy or is it the car that sets the offset not the alloy? Also any ideas on what the offset might be with these wheels on a 01 Plate Coupe.

    Thanks in advance.

The offset is on the wheels, its usually printed in mm somewhere with an et in front of it

The offset is the wheel not the car. But some cars are designed to use an alloy with a low offset, some are designed to use a high offset.

Vauxhall is designed to use a high offset (on cars like Corsa, Astra, vectra etc). Offset of ET40-ET49 is normal. IIRC Sportstars are ET35 or ET38, and 8" wide so they do stick out a little. As Keith has said though, stick some 215/35's on there, and it should solve your problem.

If you put the right tyres on you will go from a tyre with a side wall hight of 90mm and 225mm wide to a tyre with a side wall with a hight of 75.25. so you have an extra 15mm of clearance when it comes to the hight and 5mm on the width

Hmmm so you can put a 215 tyre on these alloys eve though it currently has 225's on ?? Will that basically stretch the rubber then? and I wont need arches rolled and would be able to lower a tiny bit ?

Yes it will give a slight stretch. Pretty sure your wheels are 8j the same as mine. So if you saw my tyres yours would look the same as that.

Okie, cheers for the advice there, looks like a change of tyres is in need then ad see how much room it gives me then and can see about maybe lowering 20mm or may have to have the arches rolled for that I think.

    Thanks again

Woop thought they were. With the correct tyres on then Craig you should be able to lower as much as you want. As yours are only 4mm different to mine (8x18 ET42)
You will most likely need to trim the plastic arch liner on the front though, which is a 5min job.
