    painting door strips

    i was gopna paint my door strips my self but not sure wether i need to sand them before i plastic primer them any help would be great and once they are done ill post some pics , also how easy is it to remove the handles so i can paint them

    yes you will need to sand them down...alot! You need to get all the texture off so it's nice and smooth. Start off with 180 grit to knock it back a bit, then gradually get less course 240 320 600 and finish with 800.

    Finish with 600. 800 is too smooth for the primer and base to adhere. Also you need a plastic promoter before you put anything on it or the paint wil eventually peel straight off. Plastic needs treating if you aint got the materials. then dont bother.

    Promotion is a clear glue like mist that settles onto the plastic and grips onto the plastic. Primer is a sandable underbase enabling the flattest surface for the basecoat

    So you don't need both primer and promoter then ? I just understood that you needed something to bond to both the plastic and the paint which I believed was primer ?
