It'd most probabily be easier to transfer all parts over onto the convertable. Its probabily possible to chop the roof off your coupe, but be easier, faster and cheaper to swap parts over!

mate its safer to buy a convertible and transfer the parts over, not to mention easier on the paper work side of life.

Convertibles have ALOT of extra strenghting in them, they are 100 kilos heavier than the coupe. Its not as simple as cutting the roof off and replacing it.

Wouldn't mind seeing someone have a go at it but I think that the cost would just be stupid compared to buying one and just transplanting parts

i guess the cost factor depends on how much you've got sitting about in the bank.

To buy a decent convertible you're looking at £4k-£6k at least, which you'd have to shell out in one lump to buy it outright. You're then looking at a period of 1-2 weeks to get everything switched over, during which time you're left with NO car on the road at all. there'd be sizeable costs to have it done somewhere like Regal/Courtenay as well, probably sting you another £2k. It's only once you've got everything swapped over and both cars running right that you'd be able to sell the coupe to reclaim some money, but then again its a buyer's market at the minute and who is to say you'll get a decent price for the coupe, as they're just not holding their money anymore.

compare the above to taking your coupe to somewhere that does prefessional roof conversions, like these guys, parting with probably around the same price as your outlay on a decent cabby, and you end up with less hassle, probably a courtesy car to drive round in while it's done, and the staisfaction of knowing you're driving something thats a bit unique.

I would look into the issue of whether you'd have to have an SVA check or anything similar when you declare the change of bodytype to the DVLA.
