Just changed the droplinks and its marginally less rumbly/clunking on normal roads, but still as bad on rougher road surfaces.

I'm starting to suspect the inner tie rod joints under the rubber gaiters. Anyone know where to get these from and how easy they are to fit?

I'll give your thread a wee bump as I have some similar problems with my mk5 and I'd like to know what else it could be.

Hmm, I think I may have found the source of the knocking. Just a quick question...

I'm no expert, but these ain't a brilliant example of good condition strut tops are they?

The rubber scrapes away really with a screwdriver head, at least I think its rubber... only orange.

Shocking but normal for the mk5

Well known problem and in germany Opel even supplies new improved caps for it so the water stayes out.
Some have been changed to no cost to owner, others are still fighting for it.

Could be a safty issue as the whole lot could rot away.
I took my caps off and filled it up with grease.

Hmm, interesting. I found another thread where someone found their tops had perished in the same way after just (EDIT: correction...) 14 months! So its a reasonably common design fault then?

You reckon its even worth arguing with Vauxhall? I have a feeling they would just laugh in my face if a teenager drove in with a 5 year old, 70k car asked them to do out-of-warranty remedial work for free

    Yep it is quite unbelievable.
Vauxhall got them covered up with plastic caps and how often would you open those up?
I bet a few people on here got it and just don't know

Turns out we do have some spring compressors so can do them at home. Anyone know where I should get replacement mounts from? I've looked on some of the the VX parts websites but can't see any. Is it a trip to the local dealers to pick some up? Thanks
