    Making a BBQ.....

    Anyone done this before?

I can get hold of wood free and was thinking of making a table/stand with this and using a oven roasting dish to hold the charcoals.

Anyone know any good wood treatments that will look after it when it rains and make sure it doesnt catch fire if used to support a bbq??

I made a BBG years ago but made it out of an old metal barrel which I chopped in half and then half a trolley for the bars to go inside the half cut barrel but obviously over the charcoal. My old man was a brickie though and he build a brick stand for it to sit in so not sure about wood treatment etc!

    If that makes sense!?!

Better off making a metal or brick framework for it.

Cheers guys. Im trying to make one without spending any cash if possible.

Bricks are cheap but id rather make use of the free wood i can get whenever i like. Ive just made a decent bench out of it

Yea, I'd stick to brick or metal framework. Wood frame work sounds a tad dangerous/stupid.

Considering Alcohol is consumed at most BBQs(they both go hand in hand BBQ+Ice cold beer) The risk of the wood catching fire is pretty high!

if you drill 3 holes in the Kettle bit used to hold the charcoal. Cut both ends of the 3 wooden legs at the appropriate angle and screw them on! I used Asbestos (sp?) washers between the wooden legs and Kettle to stop the wood burning, but i think if you folded a piece of tin foil a few times it may have the same effect

I got a brick BBQ in my back garden and its awsome, wouldn't reccommend using wood.
