Had a few more issues with the astra. I had a blow out on a 2 week old parada on the motorway doing er..... 70* and ended up taking a pleasant detour across the hard shoulder and over some grass as a result . I was rescued by a mate with a honda space saver which destinctly didnt fit over the hub and had the completely wrong PCD but I somehow bodged it on and got home. I then got a steelie from the scrappy that I found in the boot of a vectra with a brand new michelin tyre of some sort on it for the bargain price of £10 so I could drive the car while I send the rim and tyre back to yokohama to be inspected to see why it tried to kill me.
Then, on the way back from dropping the tyre off at work the AFM decided to pack in. I ended up with a forced 5k rev limit and it would only boost at 4psi. With that sorted all was once again well in the astra world (for now anyway) and I got a call from Dave at north east detailing saying he had something special in my engine conversion room. I went up only to find this;
Thats right, a genuine metro 6R4 with 383 miles on it from new. It is one of 4 of the road going versions left in the UK and was last driven in 2001 (before this weekend) at a 6R4 reunion hill climb thing. When the bloke who owns it came back he fired it up and gave it a few revs and it sounds awesome - I need one in my life. I asked why he doesnt use it and his answer was "I have an enzo, maseratti MC12, a DB9, V12 vanquish, porsche GT2, a lamborghini gallardo and as a daily driver a M5 tuned by some nutters in germany. Why would I want to drive a car that I dont fit in?" Fair response I thought . Its alright for some eh?
