Head gasket happy. Everyone i know, and i mean everyone i know has had hgf with these cars. know a guy with a zs and it's gone, guy with a zr on it's 3rd gasket in 2 years.

If you are determined you want one get the steel gasket fitted rather than the standard one. they are quick but will spend most of it's time having the head skimmed. I also heard from a mate who had a 2.5 mgzt that anything over a 1.8 was bmw engineered. Don't know if there is any truth to this but something to enquire about

Garage prices..... few hundred to do the gasket, skimming, parts, etc

Remove the head, do the gasket, new head bolts etc etc. Then send the head away to be skimmed. And with their notorious record of hgf it seems to be a regular thing with the old rover. K series engines seem to be made of chocolate.

A few figures lifted from wiki

    ZR 105 came with a 1.4 K series engine which produced 105 bhp (78 kW; 106 PS) and 123 N·m (91 lb·ft) torque giving a 0–60 mph of 9.8 seconds and a top speed of 111 mph (179 km/h).
    The ZR 120 came with a 1.8 K series engine which produced 115 bhp (86 kW; 117 PS) and 160 N·m (120 lb·ft) torque giving a 0–60 mph of 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 119 mph (192 km/h).
    The range-topping ZR 160 came with a 1.8 K Series VVC engine producing 157 bhp (117 kW; 159 PS) and 174 N·m (128 lb·ft) torque giving a 0–60 mph of 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 131 mph (211 km/h).

My mate has a 05 MG ZR and he has had nothing but problems with it,, from electrics to the headgasket,, Even my sisters old car a 02 Rover 25 had the same problems,, she had two engines put into it within a year,, I personally wouldn't buy one,,
Work was manic now my brain is fried!!
