Unhappy Failed MOT £1,121.80 to fix

Well title says it all really, really gutted.

Got a 1.8 SRI VVT XP and it failed on:

    Pitted discs all-around

and offside front and rear wheel bead rim badly distorted [4.2.1a].

As am sure you can all guess i really cant afford the repair bill which was for

    4 discs front x 2=£165 | Rear x 2 £185 | and two new alloys for £578

and a Tyre the rest of the amount.

The alloys arent really that bad either, yeah they are a little bit scuffed but not really BAD and well the scuffs are well clear of the actual tires.

If i get the alloys repaired (filled in) will they pass? or will i need new alloys?

    (A very sad) Dan

Do you not know a family friend who is a mechanic? if you cant afford it, its worth possibly thinking about selling it to someone who is prepared to spend the money………… :-( an awkward situation i know. sorry mate.

front and rear discs and pads can be had for less than £100 all in

wheels side of things - if they cant be just cleaned up and resealed then any good wheel refurber could sort them out for you

if im guessing by ur username ur based up here, then theres a couple of crackin wheel specialists up this end who should sort it out for about a tenth of the price u were quoted i should imagine

Get yourself on eBay, £1,121.80 does seem abit astronomical & on eBay you can grab bargains of discs etc for a descent price! they probably quoted you that price in the hope you would spend money on them doing the work knowing most people cant be without their vehicles & it has to be fixed & retested within the 7 day period.

"you gotta watch them MOT people" lol

i assume they are main dealer prices?

you can do the brakes all round (pads & discs) for less than the price they've quoted for just rear discs!!

as for the wheels, pick yourself up a cheap, spare set on ebay or the forum classifieds, get the car through the MOT and then send your current wheels off to be refurbed. when they come back you can then sell on your spare set to make most of your money back.

there's ways and means to bring almost any garage bill down and well within your timeframe if you need to.

yeh main dealers, tbh am just not good with cars i.e putting brake discs and pads on etc would rather leave it to other people to do. Anyone ever failed on the alloys and had them repaired and got thought a MOT?
