Using more oil than petrol (well it seems like it)

    I have a 1.8 SXi W Reg (x18 engine).

Its been happening for a while now, but would like to get to the bottom of it.

I top up to max and after 200-300 miles it will be down to half way, this cant be normal?

No blue smoke, no visible signs of leakage on the sump/driveway and no contamination in the water.

I'm sure it just cant dissipear, can it? I know my oil is over due a change, and plan on doing this on the weekend, but can old oil just vanish?

You can lose oil through worn piston rings/bores and you'd possibly not notice it...what oil do you use? I also assume you're checking the oil level once the car has sat stopped for at least 30 minutes (Granny, eggs and all that!).

Ok excuse my non mechanical brain... but is that a really bad thing? What other effect can It have if they are warn? Am i safe just keeping it topped up?

Yes i'm letting the oil return to the sump before testing , Using GM 10/40 stuff.

If i am not mistaken vauxhall says that if the car uses 1 liter or less for every 1000 kilometers i travels it is okay.

They do say that, and it comes down to how much you want to pay for oil each week I guess!
