    Check your pipes.

Mainly the pipes to and from the turbo. I had a similar problem and it ended up having a split in the hose between the turbo and the manifold.

    thanks

its still doing it even after i wiped the shite off the egr sensor, basically it starts ok and drives for about 5 miles, then check engine light comes on, rev counter stops working and the power drops right off, if i stop the car and turn the engine off and then on again and it works fine and does the rest of my 40 mile drive to work without an issue

then its the same process on my way home!

    hi

i've cleaned the butterflies and the problem is persisting, if i start the car all is fine for about 5 mins, the engine light comes on, then rev counter stops, then loses power, after a few more mins driving the rev counter comes bach then the light goes off and all is fine for the rest of the drive!

if the rev counter drops, i would be checking your alternator and crank sensor.
