untaxed vehicle still being driven on the road

It really annoys me, when people drive around without tax on their vehicles when they know about it. Recently I spotted a van that had come into my work to collect building materials, this van and its driver have been in a fair few times before and he is doing building work for the old branch manager who moved up to a better job.
When the driver was questioned as to why he had no tax on his van ( Ford Transit) he responded with "I just don't have time" I mean come on, what kind of excuse is that to not pay vehicle tax. I know its a blatant rip off, but we all gotta pay it.

However I'm torn on what to do. Knowingly let him get away with it or tell the police, let them deal with him and potentially a kicking or what ever from the driver since he might know it was me who said something ( or one of my colleagues)

Report it and give them rough times and they will sort it.

We had a an untaxed car that regularly parked outside our hose that I reported.

Turned out it wasnt insured either.

Police won't be interested unless the cars actually taxed but they aren't displaying it. You can report it HERE

I have neighbours who have had untaxed veichles before who got clamped. Their excuse to me was...... Not everyone can afford to tax their car.....

cheers Mr Autosparks. The police can be funny sometimes on what crimes they choose to tackle, but I hope he does get caught and punished properly.

    ***EDIT***
Just reported it online, I hope he gets what is coming to him

not all laws are under the remit of the police to enforce, this is why there are different agencies to enforce different laws, parking for example on a double yellow is not a police matter unless it is dangerous or causing an obvious obstruction.

DVA are responsible for enforcing road tax, however it is a different offence if the vehicle is stopped whilst being driven without tax, rather than an untaxed vehicle, as without valid tax this null and voids your insurance so the driver is guilty of driving without valid tax or insurance (this carries a penalty of a fine and points) whereas the DVA would enforce it as failure to tax a vehicle (this carries a penalty of a fine and back tax the vehicle but no points).
