I have a 1.8 Sport, which according to parkers, has a close-ratio gearbox. It's probably still the F17, but what are the ratios? (Sorry for hijacking)

you have the same car/ engine as me

as i read on there we have the F17 Box, the ratios are as below.

    2. 2,136
    3. 1,414

After reading on the website, it explains between the F17 + CR and F17 + WR

altho i dont know the difference but there are differences in the ratios.

The F17 + CW box which comes from the X18XE1 (Mk4) ratios are below.

Gear Ratio X Final drive Ratio = end ratio to wheels.

    First Gear 3.727 x 3.74= 13.93:1
    Second Gear 2.136 x 3.74 = 7.98:1
    Third Gear 1.414 x 3.74 = 5.28:1
    Fouth Gear 1.121 x 3.74 = 4.19:1
    Fifth Gear 0.89 x 3.74 = 3.32:1

But i was also looking at the other F17 + WR box out of
    X17DTL (Mk3)

Gear Ratio X Final drive Ratio = end ratio to wheels.

    First Gear 3.727 x 3.94= 14.68:1
    Second Gear 1.957 x 3.94 = 7.71:1
    Third Gear 1.303 x 3.94 = 5.13:1
    Fouth Gear 0.946 x 3.94 = 3.72:1
    Fifth Gear 0.761 x 3.94 = 2.99:1

I then noticed the difference in that same box the F17 + WR with a diferent final drive in the Diff, this is from the
    Y17DT, Z17DTL (Mk4)

Gear Ratio X Final drive Ratio = end ratio to wheels.

    First Gear 3.727 x 3.55= 13.23:1
    Second Gear 1.957 x 3.55 = 6.94:1
    Third Gear 1.303 x 3.55 = 4.62:1
    Fouth Gear 0.946 x 3.55 = 3.35:1
    Fifth Gear 0.761 x 3.55 = 2.70:1

Each box has there benifits in each gear, some spin faster ( at the crank) per one wheel rotation giving better torque, somespin less = more speed.

im going to look through the 1.6 boxes, to see if i can get much benifit from swapping from the 1.8 box down to the 1.6.

if the ratios are the same at the top end 4/5 gear, but allow for more acceleration at the bottom 1/2/3 gears, i might swap indeed, giving me quicker acceleration, but keeping fuel ecconmy at top end

    Did you notice a difference?

i havent ran the ratios numbers yet,

    But looking at that website
    C16SEL, X16XEL, Z16XE, Z16YNG, X18XE1, Z18XE

Are all running the F17 CR box, So swapping any of them shouldnt make one difference. The only ones i can see a difference, is if you changed to the 1.4 box.

I noticed a slight difference but probably due to it being a low milage gearbox (the cars done 105,000) so when I put it in it felt like it could pull a train
