    Whine Noise help needed!

Problem is i have a whine noise it happens when cars in motion and pitch increases with road speed. Its remains if clutch is pressed or car is put in to neatural whilst still moving.

Also grinding noise when turning and a little knocking noise could this be steering rack?

Any ideas boys and girls would be a big help

I take it the noise is from the front end? If so possibly a wheel bearing or constant volocity joint, does the knocking get louder on full steering lock?

I think I might have this exact same problem....

There is a constant whine from the front end. It changes pitch slightly with speed, but only a very slight adjustment.

I have read posts on here that might suggest it may be a gearbox issue ?? But the whine is not noticeable at all speeds and will remain constant when changing gear or coasting in neutral. It is loud enough that it is very annoying even when doing 70mph with the windows open.

I took it into Kwik Fit so that they could jack it up and test the wheel bearing thats fine and nothing wrong with the CV. He had no clue really.

BUT he did mention that one of the tyres had a slight mis-shape in it..he said this could be it. I did mention that the noise seemed to be coming from the left... He also mentioned that my disks and pads needed changing...(they past the mot the day before - with an advisory) .

So I will be putting the left front wheel onto the rear somewhere to see if the noise "moves" and m going to see a break specialist to see if the disks are warped. But apart from that I am out of ideas.....

Did u manage to do this and did it solve your issue? I been told it may be the diff bearing which im a lilttle pissed offf about due to haveing box redone not to long ago.

Also been told could be alternator or wheel bearing.

Cant see it being any of the above 2 and i am really thinking its the diff due to the noise pitch increasing with road speed and not changing or stopping when changing gear, in neuatral or clutch pressed when car is in motion.

Right.. I went to Kwik fit and they said it wasn't the wheel bearing. So I then went to another place and they said it was... The bloke in the second place said he
could hear the bearing grinding even though there was no visible
movement when you do the standard move wheel with hands test.... He also said it was £120 fitted...

I asked him if he was sure as I was under the impression that it was the whole hub assembly that needing replacing. He said it was a "push fit" (can't remember exactly what he called it) fitting.

So only one question to anyone that can help. Can this be right...if its push fit i'll do it myself..

I got a strange feeling will not be the problem but do keep me informed. I had car on stilts the other night and it would seem that noise was coming from gearbox which was upsetting for me as i not to long ago had box refurbed. So im thinking diff bearings or maybe gear bearings again. Although i dont know if gear bearing spin even when cars moving but put in to neatural? And 2 noise is abit different to when bearings went last time.

I had a strange squeeling noise not long ago thought it was the alternator, turned out to be the alternator belt.

Turns out they couldn't do it for £150 as you need to buy the "kit". Have decided that I have had enough of this car costing me money and its being sold...
