Vectra B GSi smoked interior light mod help

I've just won this fella on eBay. I thought the Vectra B GSi smoked interior light looked better than the standard one, with it map/reading lights in all!

As far as I can tell the connections are as follows:

    1 - 12v permanent live (Red)
    2 - 12v or ground
    8 - opposite to 2
    9 - Multi-timer (Grey)

I suspect that 1 and 9 are configured as per the standard interior light as 12v permanent live (Red) and Multi-timer (Grey). However, I'm not sure whether the 12v (probably easiest to use the 12v permanent live on 1 for ease) for the two push button map/reading lights would go through the lamp first or switch first (I'm suspecting that 2 would be 12v since 1 is, so switch first).

    Could anybody advise me?

    Many thanks

A bulb needs a live and eath to illuminate it. You say 1 and 9 does the normal lights and 2 and 8 does the map lights so you'll need to wire that to live and earth also

Yes you can jump off the red wire and just take the other side direct to earth, it shouldn't matter which way round any of the wires are

Worked out from looking at the PCB and bulb placements. It just seemed reasonable to assume the above .

I just wanted to do a technically sound circuit. I guess 12v to 2 would be best to reduce the amount of circuit with a PD of 12v (wrt to ground) when switched off.

I think this thread was a bit premature really. I should have more courage in my convictions and try it rather than attempting to 'transfer risk' by getting forum members to say its 'ok' first. Anyways, I'll post some pics of the difference after. Only a minor mod but they all help! And I'm sure it'll be an improvement on the standard interior light.

    Cheers
