    MK 6 1.7cdti crappy mileage

    Hi,

First post on here! I have a 1.7 sri astra (125) and am currently using the car to travel to work which is approx 300 mile and mainly motorways. The car is only getting about 40 mpg sat at about 80 - 85 on the run. I am thinking this is a bit excessive. Any ideas or comments?

    Thanks!

as Andy said mate, then engine is still wearing in, and announcing speeds of 10-15mph over the speed limit on a public forum seems a bit dim

i have never seen a person, that isnt under 50, isnt a lady, and has a reseanoble car and still does 70. i tend to go just over, just becase all the torque comes in after 3000 rpm on my car, so when im in fifth gear, doing 70, the rpm is around 3, so a little slip takes it to 80...

very hard to keep it bang on 70.

This appears to be the normal fuel consumption for this engine , I have a 1.7 110bhp and cannot get more than 42/43 mpg even with very gentle driving.
