    Opel Ampera pre-production cars

It was a so-called pre-production car that rolled off the U.S. assembly line April 23. It is still over a year to the actual production starts, and even longer for the car is ready to be sold.

    [Continued under the picture]

The production of the Opel model will be moved to Germany within the year while the Chevrolet Volt will still be produced in Michigan.
There should be many more pre-production models in the weeks ahead. These will be used for testing and commissioning of the assembly line and fine tuning of software and equipment in the cars, before the final production starts.
Some of the cars have a very short life since they will be used for crash testing.

    [Continued under the picture]

Opel Ampera is a chargable electric vehicle with a Range Extender. It can run about 60 km on the batteries until a generator starts producing power enough for a range of about 500 km. The car can be recharged from common electrical grids.
Sales Start of Ampera is planned for late 2011. Some time earlier than it's American Cousin Chevrolet Volt.

    The New Opel Ampera:

My same thoughts, someone has just stretched a civic a little bit.

    Looks good though

The rear end reminds me of some old american cars - with the rear light across the boot.

    Also like this Lincoln MKX

Liked that when they were first mentioned, but until the hydrogen fuel cell cars are out these battery things are useless. Hydrogen is the way forward.

Yeah, but still the hydrogen tank station infrastructure needs to be built first - otherwise you won't be able to get anywhere!
