Wynns hydraulic valve lifter *OR* Slick 50 engine treatment

Simple really, which would you recommend?

Basically i have made threads about my engine noise and have decided to go for the cheaper option first.

    So far ive been recommended these;

    Wynns
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id_165750#dtab

The above is cheaper and specifically for the lifters but i think it will mainly only mask it for a period of time.

    Slick 50
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165750

Ive been told by my dad who works for halfords that this is the best one to use and should solve it and not mast it as it coats all moving parts permanently which should cure my problem, plus makes the engine run smoother and may help fuel economy over time.

I know slick 50 is more expensive, but it has one great review, plus my dad works there and has used it before, not saying its guaranteed to work but more likely than wynns. Also wynns reviews says it only covers the noise up for a few miles/days then comes back.

So anyones views? Im favouring Slick 50 at the moment

Don't go near Slick50. Wynns did nothing for my valve lifters, I'd go for some Forte engine flush (about £8 and my local Vauxhall dealer had it). This cleans the engine internals up and can loosen off sticky lifters, but nothing is guaranteed.

Forte needs an oil change after use mind, but Vauxhall themselves use this and I'm tempted to swear by it myself if used at every service.

Slick50 messes with the oil and has millions of horror stories, it is also not a cleaner, so won't clean out the oil paths in the lifter(s) if one is blocked, which would then cause it not to pressurise fully and hence make the tapping noise when it hits the cam/valve.

3 litres of diesel mixed with 1.5 litres of fresh oil. job done.

No need to pay for expensive treatments when diesel is a light oil and an excellent solvent

but how do i know it works better? someone will just say thats wrong. Some say slick50 works, others say it does not, same with wynns and other theories.. im fed up of theories and garages not being able to tell me what it is.. I am not risking ruining my engine

Well it never ruined mine. As long as you just let the engine tick over and don't stress it you will be fine

I'd rather just stick to oil thats supposed to be in the car, but thanks, will bare that in mind if the problem continues after other solutions..

It seems any additive that ive been recommended, someone on here has something bad to say about it.. if slick50 is so bad, why is it still selling?
