Ash has her MK5 booked to go into her local dealer to have potential work done under warranty. Car wouldn't start correctly, and would cut out. Would eventually start with a slight dab of the throttle!
Anyway, car was dropped off last night, this morning gets a phone call, head gasket has gone. They tried telling her the car had been run for weeks without coolant in it - which I know for sure thats not possible! They claim to have run compression tests and the sort and said all signs were pointing to low compression/head gasket failure. Was a bit cautious of giving the go-ahead for work to be done seeing as she has had no visible signs that it was on its way out.
So, collected the car. Was told on drop off that she would incur no fees at all, unless parts were needed which weren't covered under warranty. Get to pick it up and they start demanding a £31 inspection fee for 30 mins labour. Eventually after her and her Dad arguing the point with the manager they paid the fee, and took the car away.
Managed to get the car to a local independent garage this afternoon who ran compression tests etc and determined that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the head gasket at all, and that no work of the sort needed to be carried out!
So, lesson learnt for the day, always get a second opinion!
