    Checking front wheel bearings

I have got a whining/rumbling noise from the front of the car for a while and it has gradually got worse, i reckon its the wheel bearings. iv tried jacking the car up and wobbling the wheels to see if there isany play in the bearings but there is very little movement if any. is there any otherway to check them?

    Cheers

Spin the front wheels and put ur hand on the coil spring, if you feel a vibration through the spring or any part of the suspension then its the wheel bearings, if not it could be the gearbox

I reckon i have the same thing. The whine at 50mph is loud! And a nice squeek at low speeds.

No play in wheels. Im gonna just replace the fronts anyway. Does anybody know which ones i need?

they tend to whine at speed and squeek at low speed, but often show no wear or side movement. it is normally an issue with the inner tracks going dry

Spinning the wheel isn't conclusive test for anything

Jack the car up and hold the wheel top and bottom, then try to rock the wheel in and out - if you can feel any movement it's the wheel bearing that guff

If you hold the wheel with hands at 'quarter to three' and do the same, any movement felt there and the steering swivel is guff
