    Boost bouncing all over.

Hi all, just been out in the car today and noticed that the boost was bouncing all over, it seemed to be not that bad in 1 and 2 but in 3rd and above if i just floor it, it over boosts to about .7bar then drops to about .5 and bounces between .2 to .5bar. Any ideas? It`s the original turbo on 61K, but i`m thinking more along the lines of a dodgy boost control or actuator, i`ve never had any senors replaced since i bought the car 3 years ago on about 30K, most people on here seem to always have some senor go at some point and i`m feeling left out

Any 1 had similar simptoms and what did you replace??

Check all your boost vacuum pipes first off, as this is usually the problem (and it costs you naff all to fix)

Thanks johnny, are these the small pipes that run around the back of the car ect. and is it just a case of visually inspecting them or can you pressure them some how to aid finding leaks?? Sorry for the noobie question.

you got a boost gauge?? If your leak is in the vacuum circuit it will show up on the gauge as a reduction in vacuum during idle.

What I did was to connect the gauge directly to the inlet manifold for a true reading, then working backwards connect one section of pipe at a time until the reading drops - then check that section for leaks visually. My leak was the standard dump valve rubber diaphragm.

Once this is done the other circuit in the one on the turbo itself (the boost solenoid with the three pipes coming out of it), remove the solenoid (two bolts) and all the pipes and do a visual inspection.
