    Car Tax Question

My car tax is due on the 30th this month.
Brought my car to sheffield for the week, but left my renewal letter at home.

If I renew it online I won't have a valid tax disc to display on my car for a few days.
Whats the legal requirement with this?

Am i going to have to drive back just to tax my car?

you need your renewal to tax it at post office and online IIRC.

Online asks you for a number and the post office scans the barcode, but maybe wrong

it is an offence if you do not display a valid tax disc so if it doesnt arrive in time you risk being fined etc

I was under the impression when you buy online, you need the ID number (or reference number) on the letter?

But even so, what happens with regards to not having a valid tax disc showing in the car?

You need the renewal, Mot certificate and the insurance document to retax the car

If you don't have the renewal you need the v5, Mot and insurance document and you have to fill in a form at the post office/DVLA
