How to tell if crankshaft oil seal has gone - Z20LET

    Hey guys,

I was looking under my mates ACT the other day and noticed there was oil dripping off the bottom of the bell housing/gearbox area.

I cleaned it up for him, but the oil seems to make a puddle on the front of the bell housing, nowhere else.

There is alot of oil coming down the front of the block, looks like it could be coming from the breather that attaches to the block behind the precat.

Could it be the crankshaft oil seal? Or is it most probably the oil coming from the front and dripping down? I can't see it streaming down the front of the bell housing/gearbox join, but after 20 minutes of idle it creates a tiny drip from the lowest point.

    Im stumped

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

Are you sure its engine oil and not brake/clutch fluid?

This is an old thread but, just been round to a friends, left the car off for around 3 hours, started it up to go home and after a few seconds could smell burning oil or something, you see the smoke in front of the head lights, looking under the car there is an oil or somthing else forming droplets on the front of the bell housing, seems odd that someone else has the same problem, anyone know what or where it is comming from and is it dangerous? My first though big end oil seel leaking in to the bell housing and seeping through the join, if anyone can elaborate on this it would be great, I'm worrying....
