    Cone filter on a 1.4 16v?

    Sound request really.
Tempted to buy a cheapo Ripspeed cone filter from Halfords, they are only £30 odd, just to make my car sound a bit better.
Also if i removed the airbox but kept the standard intake pipe there and positioned the cone so it sits infront of the intake, will this avoid heat soak?

Really i just want to hear what it will sound like, or can it mess with the afm?

it WONT mess with your afm, thats a myth. but it will make your car uber slow. no amount of cold air feed will give it a decent amount of cold air. go for a veccy c intake pipe on a standard airbox with a panel filter and if you really need it to be noisy drill the airbox. if you look it up on google youll find a how to.

You'll definately get a nice roar when accelerating hard ...was trying to put a link vid I had with pipercross foam cone... But on the itouch ATM and doesn't let me view vids from photobucket I'll put it here tomorrow

as for heatsoak most will say you won't notice it but I did. Then agian I'm quite sensitive when it comes to my car lol

this was the set up I had at the time

but you should try it out see if you like it or not though still some don't mind the small performance loss over the noise it makes

    hope this helps

The intake pipe provides nowhere near enough air flow if left passive like the photo above. Work out the airflow rate of the engine, it is huge, you will be seriously shocked!

If you want a loud roar when you drive then cone filters are perfect. My previous Astra ran like a bag of nails though, even with a decent cold air feed.

    Thanks.
For 20 odd quid its worth a shot and i could always sell it on.
Surely it would do for the winter though?

To add noise? That's what he wants and the above doesn't change that.
