Engine automatically 'pulses' the revs when idling (warm start, not cold start)

    Hello guys,
    I have a Astra G (2004 on a 53 plate).
When the engine has already been warmed up and stopped, then while still warm is started again and left to idle, the engine appears to automatically rev itself up. It sort of 'pulses', revving up and down. If manouvering the car in or out of spaces it can be quite embarassing because it sounds as though your clutch control is non existent and the car can stall if it catches you off guard because the revs drop too low.
I think this could be a common Astra fault as years ago we had a V plate Astra that developed the same fault.

Has anybody here experienced the same fault and managed to repair it?
    Many thanks,
    Bob.

BTW when I do try to check for fault codes using the brake and accelerator pedals, the management light just flashes continuously

    It's a 53 plate 1.6 sxi Twinport - z16XEP I think.
I haven't actually checked that though, so I'm not 100% certain.

Looks like this (though not Opel):

i would give the throttle body a clean mate and change the air filter if it hasnt been done in a while. throttle body costs nothing to clean and an air filter is only about 7 or 8 quid from a dealer so thats the best place to start.
