Bessie is booked in the garage tomorrow - what is it gonna cost?

Over the last week my car has been leaking hydraulic fluid from near the gearbox. I think it may be the slave cylinder that's foobarred, as it's becoming difficult to get into gear as well. If this is the case, can someone give me a ballpark figure as to what it will cost for part and labour? If the clutch has seen better days, I may as well get that done as well - what does that typically cost? Thanks

the clutch and slave cylinder, if they are decent parts like LUK would be around £180, then labour on top. the whole job at an independant garage should cost around £400 -£450 inc vat. if you are leaking clutch fluid then you will have do the clutch cover and plate as a matter of course anyway

If I bought the parts myself, would I go for the 3 piece clutch kit? What is the difference between the 2 and 3 part kits? (And don't say 1 part!) Anybody know the cheapest a good quality slave cylinder can be had for?

you need the three part kit, false economy fitting a two part kit. a three part kit is machined together. a two part kit is just cover and plate, a three part kit includes the hydralic release cylinder

i use http://www.brakeparts.co.uk they do everything clutch related and reasonable prices

The 'hydraulic release cylinder'....is this the slave cylinder in layman's terms? Be patient with me, I am taking this all in!

Oh right, I was looking for slave cylinders and they were around 70 quid, but for an extra 40 quid I might as well buy the kit and stump up the extra labour.
This car is starting to bug me now, the 8v was bulletproof. This new one - suspension squeaks, engine light is on for AFM and ATS, coolant light is on, daren't even check the cambelt and now this! It's going to be a new bloody car by the time I'm done!
